This year’s spring equinox will occur on Saturday, March 20th, 2021. In the Northern Hemisphere this is the start of spring - a season of rebirth that holds the promise of joy, energy, and abundance. On this day, the sun rests directly above the Equator and we have equal parts of dark and light in our skies. From here thru to the summer solstice, the amount of light we receive each day will grow greater and greater until we reach the longest day of the year at the summer solstice on June 20th.

Pagans celebrate this day as Ostara, named after a Germanic lunar goddess whose name roughly translates to “moving in the direction of the rising sun”. Ostara represents a threshold between the season of inward growth and reflection and the season of fertility and renewal. We breathe in the hope of what is possible as the light overtakes the dark and then press forward until we blossom and bloom.

This is also the beginning of Aries season and the start of a new zodiac year. Don’t be surprised if you feel an internal spark that is burning for a fresh, new start. Aries is a cardinal fire sign whose key phrase is “I am”. This energy drives us to take action on how we truly want to show up in this world.

I can’t help but think about what was happening at this time last year. Our world was shutting down and we were all being asked to reevaluate how we live our lives. For many of us, life slowed down significantly. Activities that used to fill our calendars were no longer safe to participate in.

I don’t know about you, but all the extra free time I’ve had has really made me reevaluate my priorities. Was the status quo of go-go-go really making a positive impact on my life? I feel a new resolve to protect my time and energy so that I can give birth to new creative ideas and create a work/life balance that is sustainable.
